Hello, my name is Mingliang Ge.

... btw above is me skydiving :P

Engineering is awesome.

I am currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and I am expected to graduate in December 2015. My major focus is digital system and communication. I am also currently working as a research assistant in ECE, and the majority of my work focuses on communication networks in Unmanned Vehicles.

I completed my Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering at The Ohio State University in May, 2014. In my undergraduate studies, I completed several essential programming courses, including C++, Java, Python and some MATLAB courses. In addition, I was acquainted with computer architectures, microcontrollers, semiconductors, etc., which builds my fundamental electrical engineering practice.

During free time I love to learn new computer or programming skills. I am most comfortable with C++, and I am willing to learn new programming languages. In addition, I like web designing and I am trying to teach myself how to use the HTML and CSS. In my freshman year I set up a website and became the vice president of IT for International Undergraduate Future Orientation (IUFO), a student organization at OSU.

I am also an active participant in many student activities and events. I was accepted to the Engineering Scholars Program at OSU. In the scholars program we focus a lot on “Green Engineering”, the engineering method that minimize the risk to human and nature. We are able to get involved in more hand-on experience on engineering and more Honors and Scholars Events, such as H&S social events or research info-sessions, around campus. In addition to these activities on campus, I also completed 30 credit hours of community service for 2 years outside the campus. I was awarded with Participation Award during the Scholars Banquet at the end of my freshman year.

I love taking on challenges (as you might see from my skydiving experience :P) and I love engineering.

How much do I love engineering?

Ongoing – Unmanned Ground Vehicle and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Swarm Implementation

- Design and demonstrate a robust communication architecture for an autonomous ground swarm performing specific task while an aerial swarm perform aerial verification;
- Majority of work on wireless communication aspect of the project, using 802.11p protocol;
- Block simulation on Wi-Fi physical layer in GNU Radio Companion.

“Microbaby” Simple Computer Architecture Design and Verification

- Conduct verification of a simple computer architecture;
- Verify control unit, memory units, arithmetic/logic unit and bootstrap loader components of the architecture so that they function as expected;
- Correct design errors and generate a verification report for the architecture.

ECE Capstone Design: Hands-free Presentations using Microsoft Kinect

- Developing a hands-free controlling system using Microsoft Kinect SDK and Microsoft Visual Studio to navigate between Microsoft PowerPoint slides, using gestures and motions from body tracking;
- C# language programming, 724 lines of codes;
- The final program successfully tracks human skeleton. Users are able to slide their hands either left or right to go to the next slide or the previous slide. In addition, users are able to use voice commands that control slides during presentation, such as "NEXT SLIDE" or "GO TO FIRST SLIDE".

VHDL Alarm Clock Design

- Designing an Alarm Clock that has functions including time adjustment, snooze, and alarm using Xilinx ISE Design Tool.

Texas Instrument ASLK Pro lab

- Lab dealing with amplifiers and digital-to-analog converters, using wire jumpers, transistors and diodes.

Advanced Energy Vehicle (AEV) Project

- Creating a vehicle model that uses efficient energy.
- 1st place in Best Engineered Award; 3rd place in Best Documentation Award.
- Two showcases were set up in OSU main library on March 4th, 2011 and in OSU Urban Arts Space on March 31st, 2011.

First Year Engineering Bridge Building Project

- Building a bridge model that can hold the heaviest weight.
- 1st place among the groups.
